The Good and the Bad about Cuisinart Rice Cookers.
The 4-cup CRC-400 and the 8-cup CRC-800 are the available Cuisinart rice cookers today. They look identical, only differing in, well, size. They have a nice-looking brushed stainless steel exterior. Both comes with a nonstick bowl, and their baskets are made of stainless steel, which is very good for steaming veggies and also your favorite seafood.
The Cuisinart CRC-400 and the CRC-800 are good rice cookers because they have a boiling method that's easy to use. You'll also get a removable glass top lid, a measuring cup, and a plastic rice spoon. Both rice cookers have a manual with recipes you can follow easily. But there's lacking about the CRC-400 and the CRC-800: Fuzzy Logic and sophisticated settings for different kinds of rice. They also don't feature programmable timer. Despite all these, they can manage to cook the best rice. But it looks like many consumers nitpick about some issues that may not make Cuisinart rice cookers worth it.
Cuisinart CRC-400
The Good: The 4-cup version has a very trendy design. It's as small as an economic 2-slice toaster, so it won't take up a lot of counter room. It goes perfectly well with the overall kitchen design. One good thing about this rice cooker is its easy-to-clean parts. Another thing that we like about it is that it has decent cooking times.
But a lot of users dislike the spilling over. There's a solution to this: Just rinse your rice very well. Then add one tsp of vegetable oil for every cup of rice. This can solve the problem most of the time.
This rice cooker has tiny steaming basket that can't hold to many vegetables and seafood. It's probably only ideal for only two persons at most. Another issue is the water-to-rice learning curve. However, this model works just fine once you get past this issue. This cooker catches up with other rice cookers available in the market.
8-cup CRC-800
The Good: This rice cooker has a modern and sleek feel to it. It's exterior has a smooth stainless steel finish. It's one of the prettiest kitchen appliances you'll ever have on your counter. You don't have to worry about its handles since it's chrome plated and touch friendly. They don't get hot, which allows you to move the rice cooker anytime you want.
This rice cooker features level control. It also has warming modes and comes with retractable cord storage. It also includes a really nice rice paddle and a plastic measuring cup. It comes with a 3-year warranty.
But this the rice sticks with this cooker, despite its pot's nonstick coating. According to the manual, you have to spray its bottom so that the rice won't stick. If a rice cooker promises it's nonstick, then there should be no sticking of rice. Although many people claim they have no problem about it.
Like the 4-cup model, the 8-cup model has some small issues with splattering. Yes, it features a steam vent that prevents splattering. It won't spill if you don't cook more than 6 cups. Splattering is an issue when you cook too much rice, about 8 cups.
